SG15 AED Surrey SAR VW Amarok Lowland Rescue vehicle. This 2015 4×4 replaces their old Land Rover Defender. The car is suited to travelling across the county on normal roads but also has good off road capability where required. A fold-down screen in the Truckman rear allows briefing to be given or other information to be displayed – such as the view from a drone (shown). The total cost for the vehicle was £32,500 and was met by the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

PO12 HHU This is Surrey FRS’s Incident Command Unit. The front end is a Renault Master with bespoke bodywork behind.



A close look at the front grille shows that the Renault badge has been swapped for a Plastisol one, the company that did the conversion.



The lengthy vehicle is extended further by a large awning that swaps around one side and the rear of it. The roof has the usual array of lights and communications equipment.

Here are three Surrey police vehicles at the Clacket Lane services on the M25. The car is a Vauxhall Vectra estate 3.2 GSi with motorway specification battenburg markings. The two LGVs are Iveco Ford based mobile custody suites. Usually sent to different locations, in this instance they are deployed back to back with both rear doors open and a short gangplank connecting each unit. These vans have full prisoner handling facilities with cells, toilets, interview room and equipment to fingerprint and photograph prisoners. On the roof of each is a satellite dish giving communications and data handling abilities.

This is a fire cycle! The red Specialized mountain bike…



This red Specialized mountain bike has four blue lights fitted to the front as well as a small siren. It has been decked out in bright yellow striping and even the saddle has a picture of flames on it. The bike is not operational – it was specially built for a police, fire and ambulance cycle race up the Brooklands hill-climb course in Surrey.

S420 STW is a GMC Chevrolet Suburban Silverado ‘Wheeled Coach’ Ambulance. It is being used by Norfolk Priority Care Medical Services for intensive care transfer work. Four shots of the vehicle are shown which is temporarily in the Surrey Ambulance livery – it’s previous owners – just like the vehicle above.

LX04 HZG is a Metropolitan Police Jankel Guardian based on a 4×4 Ford F-450 Super Duty truck and was converted by Jankel Armouring Ltd, Surrey. This beefy truck has a 6-litre, 325bhp turbo diesel engine, and weighs almost 7 tons.



The front view of this heavily amoured truck. After a trial of three such vehicles by The Met at Heathrow Airport in July 2002, an order of 13 was placed. The Guardians will replace a fleet of armoured Land Rovers and will be used for protection and response work daily. The level of protection offered by this vehicle has not been disclosed, but it is known that the base model specification includes fragmentation grenade and 7.62 calibre bullet protection.



The side view shows us the heavily plated doors and minimal windows. The vehicle is also equipped with run flat tyres. Like PSNI Land Rovers, all of the lights have been protected to prevent them from breaking in extreme circumstances.



The inside. The Guardian can carry eight crew and equipment. It is also fitted with an intercom to allow the officers to communicate with people outside the vehicle if it is unsafe to get out.

Other customers of Jankel include the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices, aviation companies and news agencies.
