This example has a single thin yellow stripe up the sides, the service’s crest and a removable blue light with integral siren unit.

G-WYPA in service with Wiltshire police and ambulance services in 2005. This aircraft was previously one of the Great North Air Ambulances (photos lower down the page). Prior to this it was new in 1989 as West Yorkshire’s police helicopter (hence the callsign).

Here we have a G-WPAS, the Wiltshire Police Air Support Unit. The MD Explorer helicopter is jointly operated with Wiltshire Ambulance Service as an air ambulance.
The helicopter lifts off. You can see the gyrostabilised camera mounted below the nose of the helicopter and the night-sun spotlight mounted at the end of the port skid.
G-WPAS is not equipped with a tail rotor. Instead, hot air is ducted out of the rear of the boom providing stability. This makes the aircraft quieter to operate and easier to control when landing in confined places. It also makes it safer for persons moving around the exterior of the aircraft when its engines are running.

F819 LOO A Ford Granada 2.9 4×4 that is in preservation. It is one of eight such cars that Ford produced and trialled in various police forces. The car shown was loaned to Wiltshire Constabulary in 1988 and was retired in 1991.
The car has many various changes from the standard model, the most noticeable being the aerodynamic casing for the roof-mounted lights. This was revolutionary but ultimately unsuccessful due to the increased cost.
A closer look at the special roof. The centre square flips up to display different messages to traffic behind. The appropriate message from a fixed selection is placed onto the vertical surface.
The rear of the concept car. The large white boxes on the boot lid are rear-facing flashing lights that operate when the boot is open.

WX59 GWG This is an Iveco Daily Incident Command unit that is operated by Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service. Inside is an array of high resolution mapping systems and digital radio and tracking equipment to enable the senior fire officer to control serious incidents in the county of Wiltshire. Notice the red ends to the roof light bar, as this is one of the few vehicles on UK roads that is allowed to show red light to the front.

UWV 560 This is a preserved Commer Mark IV with Miles coachwork and was with Wiltshire Fire Brigade. Restoration began in 2005 when the vehicle was in a very poor condition with the engine not working. Notice the folding door to access the rear portion of the cab and the wooden ladders. Emergency warning equipment comes from a blue beacon, bell and horns mounted on the roof and a half blue static light on the nearside bumper.

W704 YER This is a yellow Volvo V90 ambulance conversion. It was formerly with Wiltshire Ambulance Service based at Trowbridge. It was one of six identical vehicles bought by Wiltshire and similar vehicles were used in a small number of other services in the UK, including Northumbria. It is now in private hands but kept operational.
