NK09 FHY This is a Ford Transit personnel carrier that is with Durham Constabulary. This Transit is one of the first batch in Durham to be decked out in battenburg markings. Fleet manager Mike Mastaglio explains that vehicles are now being bought “out of the box” and the manufacturers apply this livery as part of the overall package. The motorcycle fleet introduced battenburg some time ago, but four-wheeled vehicle had to wait until 2009. This brings the force in line with most of the rest of the UK.



The rear view of the Transit. It is fitted with underbody protection, strengthened windows, lights and engine bay protection for use in areas where firebombs and missiles are in use. The occupants inside are often in full body armour and can be on standby for many hours. To make this more comfortable, a radio, air conditioning and small tables are included.
