BX09 AHF This is a Vauxhall Zafira that is used by the Met police as a patrol supervisor car. It is primarily for sergeants to patrol their area and meet constables on the ground. Introduced by the Met in May 2009, the vehicles will act as a mobile supervision vehicle and an incident command vehicle if required. It is seen here at the scene of a large fire.

PX09 CUU This 2009 Ford Transit is based in Keswick in the Lake District. It is used to transport officers and detained persons around the rural area. It is fitted with a Vector roof light bar arrangement which is popular on Cumbria vehicles.

LD07 LKZ is the lead vehicle in a blue…



LD07 LKZ is the lead vehicle in a blue light escort of a blue Royal Mint truck. As the City of London Police BMW 530 stops traffic at a junction, the two CoLP BMW X5s stay close to the front and rear of the van. This helps stop any vehicle getting close to the van accidentally or on purpose.



LM57 JVP A couple of seconds later the main convoy passes through the junction at speed. The second BMW X5 can just be seen behind the blue truck. The police vary the times, days and routes of this regular escort to help prevent an ambush.

LC58 YFY This is a West Yorkshire Police BMW…



LC58 YFY This is a West Yorkshire Police BMW 320D. An unusual feature is the temporary addition of a yellow strip on the windscreen saying ‘cycle race’. This was one of the police vehicles used for the Tour of Britain cycle race in September 2009.



The rear of the BMW. The strip saying ‘race rear’ indicates that this car remains at the rear of the peloton. The roads were closed fluidly and the cycle race treated as a large escort operation.

LD09 UVK This West Yorkshire BMW X5 3.0D…



LD09 UVK This West Yorkshire BMW X5 3.0D was used as the race command vehicle for the Tour of Britain. This car remained ahead of all the competing cyclists and helped control the fleet of around 20 police motorbikes that were holding traffic at junctions. However they could not keep the way clear at a level crossing in Yorkshire where police and competing cyclists were held up!

NX09 AMU This is a Ford Transit support vehicle used by North Yorkshire. It carries no blue lights, but a simple band of battenburg down each side. Adverts for Crimstoppers, the force’s non-emergency telephone number and the force website are shown too.

LC07 OGF and LC07 OGB are a BMW 330D and…



LC07 OGF and LC07 OGB are a BMW 330D and a 530D which are both with the Regional Roads Policing Team which has been set up to deny criminals the use of the roads and tackle offenders who cross force boundaries to commit crimes. It was formed in September 2008, taking officers from the North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside forces.

This photograph shows a Volvo V70 2.5 FlexiFuel Turbo 200bhp police car. The V70 2.5FT produces 300Nm of torque and has a top speed of 130mph. FlexiFuel is one of Volvo’s latest innovations which allow cars to run on E85, a fuel that consists of 85% bioethanol and 15% regular petrol.

FJ08 LBA This is a Skoda Octavia that is in service with Leicestershire Police. Notice the blue lights at four different heights when viewed from the front (roof, dashboard, grille, bumper) and the orange stripes running down the edge of the bonnet.

CU04 AOH is a black Land Rover Discovery belonging to North Yorkshire police. This is one of a number of such vehicles the force operates. Marked-up in 2008, their previous role was unmarked vehicles to be used day-to-day by senior officers. The remnants of this can be seen by the small hidden blue lights in the front grille.
