After being passed around a number of forces, it found a permanent home withy the Met Police in 1997 as part of the Special Escort Group. Its most famous moment was escorting Princess Diana’s funeral cortege in 1997. It left police service in 2002.

This is a promotion vehicle used by RS Connect. The 207 mph supercar certainly catches the eye but unfortunately won’t be trialled by the UK police. The super-fast car has 3.8 litre twin-turbo engine coupled to a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox meaning it can leap from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds.

Bobby the Tractor is operated by North Yorkshire Police’s Rural Task Force. It is on loan to the force during 2018 as a promotion vehicle. It attends public events and is used to draw the crowds and give the police an opportunity to talk to people about rural crime issues. It is fitted with small flashing blue lights to the front and small blue and red flashing lights to the rear. The tractor is brought to events by a farming machinery company on a low loader and they also store it between events.

Dating from 1949, this pump escape has been fully restored when sen in 2018. It is part of Cheshire FRS’s historic fleet. The Rolls Royce 8-cylinder engine, combined with a 4-speed gearbox, propells the emergency appliance from 0-60 mph in a heady 45 seconds. Fuel consumption is usually 3 or 4 mpg.

The Bristow-operated Coastguard helicopter is seen here rescuing a gentlemen from the roof of a cathedral. After lowering a medic and a stretcher the man in winched up into the helicopter that is hovering over the Minster in York, drawing large crowds. The narrow spiral staircases taking visitors to the roof of the buidling are not suitable for stretchering someone down. The Coastguard provide search and rescue helicopters for the whole country and practice every few years winching someone off the roof of York Minster.

New to the roads in January 1961, this fire engine originally served in Blackburn and is now in preservation. When new it cost £4,500 and was the first fire vehicle in the county to be fitted with a blue flashing light – a new Home Office recommendation at the time. The name plate for Alderman Robert F Mottershead is in honour of the vice chairman of the watch and the fire birgade committee of the town council.
