MX58 UYS Here is a GMP Land Rover Discovery that is part of the Manchester Airport fleet. A separate amber beacon is mounted towards the rear of the roof. The small red squares on the bodywork indicate that this vehicle has been armoured to provide the occupants a high level of protection against explosions or other physical attack.

SN05 LHE An overhead look at this 2005 Land Rover Discovery, GMP 17, used by the police at Manchester Airport.

BX59 BVW Heathrow Airport is patrolled by this Met Police Mitsubishi Shogun. It looks very similar to central London versions, but with the difference being the amber flashing light on the roof and the fleet number BJH.

These two Essex Police cars are used at Stanstead Airport. They carry amber beacons on the roof as well as large numbers on the sides to identify them. The front car is a Volvo V70 and behind it is a Mitsubishi Shogun..

LX05 HZK This silver Vauxhall Zafira is also one of the units based at Heathrow.

LX51 FYL is a Met police Astra that is stationed at Heathrow Airport. It has a red roof and amber flashing lights for use air-side.

S225 TNE This Land Rover Defender is used by Merseyside Police at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The most interesting thing about this vehicle is the twin coloured light bar. The blue light is used to indicate its police status and the amber light is a requirement for all vehicles that drive on the apron.

UKB 413H This old black and white photo shows an officer of the Liverpool Airport Police from 1968 with his BMC Austin / Morris J4.

ONA 883H is a BMC black Maria that was in use in 1968 by the police at Manchester Airport. Notice that it does not have blue lights – just the airside amber beacon.
BVR 833C is a black police Mini that was new in 1965. It also has the amber light but does not carry any ‘police’ signs.
