A Mercedes Sprinter that has been converted into an ambulance by Manchester-based Cartwright. 21 of these vehicles from the Taurus range have been supplied to the Yorkshire Ambulance Service in 2013.

SW08 KXM This is a VW Transporter ambulance that is in service with the Scottish Ambulance Service. In 2013 it holds the record for the most Northerly-stationed emergency vehicle in the UK. It is based at Baltasound in the North of the island of Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands. It’s location, near 61 degrees North, makes it further North than Oslo in Norway.



The rear view. The vehicle is stationed outdoors but is plugged in to keep the battery in peak condition. Just 10m South is a fire station.

Inside the rear half. Medical supplies and a bariatric stretcher is carried. A patient would not be transported in this vehicle, but the equipment would be switched with that in a regular ambulance.
