This Yellow Goddess was used in Northern Ireland, most recently in the early 2000s during firefighter strikes. The army were concerned that the vehicles would be attacked and so they were fitted with guards over the windows and locker handles were removed. The most obvious change was that there were painted yellow to distinguish them from other green military vehicles.

RNLB City of Sheffield. This vessel was retired in 2016 from Poole after saving 650 lives in a 15-year career. It is now in preservation at the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield, perversely 60 miles from the sea.

This escape ladder was in service at Skelton Castle from 1930 to 1984. After this it was presented to Cleveland Country Fire Brigade for historical purposes and for preservation.

Sun Fire Office
This hand-drawn pump dates from around 1790. It was operated by the insurance company before the establishment of a fire service. Only properties that were insured through the company would be attended and fires extinguished.

This horse-drawn carriage boasts that it was the first ambulance in Barnsley in 1885.

Dating from 1950. This luxury vehicle was built by Lomas and weighs over two tonnes, making it somewhat cumbersome to drive at speed in a city centre.

This horse-drawn cart was stationed at Bridlington and was built at some point between 1870 and 1910. Equipment carried includes rope ladders, cork helmets, cork lifebelt and rope with a cane attached to one end. Regular exercise drills allowed the volunteers to perfect rescue techniques and prize money was awarded to those who could throw the farthest.
